Gov. Ritter has ordered that the National POW/MIA flag fly above the Colorado state Capitol building to recognize Prisoners of War and Missing in Action (“POW/MIA”) of the U.S. Armed Forces, today, September 17, 2010.
“It is important for all Coloradans to remember the enduring sacrifice made by military families who do not know the whereabouts of loved ones who served our nation in battle and have not returned home,” Gov. Ritter said.
President Obama proclaimed yesterday that the POW/MIA flag fly above the White House and the United States Capitol, and other federal buildings including the Departments of State, Defense, and Veterans Affairs, the Selective Service System Headquarters, the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, United States post offices, and national cemeteries.
The POW/MIA flag flying above the Colorado state Capitol was provided by the American Legion Department of Colorado. The American Legion has advocated for POW/MIA awareness since 1980.
