Gov. Bill Ritter announced today he has appointed Todd Leslie Taylor of Greeley as a District Court judge in the 19th Judicial District, which serves Weld County.
Taylor is a partner at Taylor & Rapp, where he has worked since 2002. The firm was known as Henderson, Taylor & Rapp from 2002 through 2006. His areas of practice included family law, criminal defense, general civil litigation, administrative law and non-profit corporation law.
Prior to working at Taylor & Rapp, Taylor served as a municipal judge for the City of Gilcrest (2000-2004), a criminal justice instructor at the University of Northern Colorado (fall semester of 1997), solo-practitioner (1997-2002), deputy district attorney in the 19th Judicial District (1992-1997), and staff attorney for the Legal Services Corporation in Washington, D.C. (1991-1992).
Taylor received his B.A. from the University of Colorado – Boulder (1987) and his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center (1991).
Taylor will fill a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Gilbert A. Gutierrez. His appointment will be effective August 22. The annual salary for the position is $128,598, and the initial term of office is a provisional term of two years, and then until the second Tuesday in January following the next general election. Thereafter, if retained by the voters, the term for a district court judge is six years.
