“Finally, we broke the log jam of Republican obstruction, and we will send the long overdue extension of unemployment benefits to the President. While we work to turn our economy around there are still millions who depend on these benefits to simply stay afloat. In addition to helping millions of Americans, this funding will directly stimulate the economy. Those of us elected to represent our neighbors and communities need to fight for the people who need help the most. I’m deeply concerned about our nation’s debt, but the same people who repeatedly blocked this extension and left 2.5 million Americans out in the cold also voted to prosecute two wars without paying for them, pass the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and failed to police Wall Street—all of which added to the deficit.”
