Perlmutter Praises DRCOG Announcement to Fund Final Phases of I-225 & Colfax/17th Place Interchange

Washington DC – Today, U.S Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) released the following statement in support of the Denver Regional Council of Government’s (DRCOG) announcement to fund Phase III & IV of the I-225 & Colfax/17th Place Interchange. Through the federal appropriations process, the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act and working with regional stakeholders, Rep. Perlmutter has helped secure approximately $30 million to complete this important project. Attached is a letter of support from Rep. Perlmutter encouraging DRCOG to fund Phase III & IV of the interchange.

“This funding announcement is great news for Aurora , the Anschutz Medical Campus and Colorado . I am proud to have helped secure funding for this project and I applaud DROCOG’s decision to fund the final two phases. This interchange is key to the expansion of the Anschutz Medical Campus and is fueling economic development in Aurora . As we start construction on the new VA Medical Center , and as University of Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital continue to expand we also need this interchange to grow,” stated Perlmutter.

“Patients and staff need to be able to quickly and efficiently access this growing campus and this funding will make that possible. Additionally, construction on this interchange will create construction jobs while allowing the campus to fulfill its full potential as a major economic engine for Colorado . Most importantly, I want to thank all the stakeholders whose dedication helped make this possible including the City of Aurora under Mayor Ed Tauer’s leadership, the Aurora Economic Development Council under the leadership of Wendy Mitchell, the University of Colorado, the Anschutz Medical Campus, the University of Colorado Hospital, Children's Hospital, Forest City Development, Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.”

Additionally, construction for the I-225 & Colfax/17th Place Interchange currently has created nearly 40 jobs. Congressman Perlmutter continues to focus on putting people back to work.
