“A friend of mine once told me, ‘Mark, if you eat, you’re in agriculture,’ and truer words were never said. Farmers and ranchers helped settle Colorado , and they’ve been a critical part of our economy ever since – whether you’re talking about beef in the Eastern Plains, potatoes in the Valley or peaches on the Western Slope,” Udall said. “Through new opportunities in renewable energy, increased exports and investments in rural infrastructure, farmers and ranchers sustain rural Colorado ’s heritage and way of life even as they fuel the nation’s economy. I’m proud to fight for the people who harvest our crops and tend to livestock to maintain our quality of life, and I urge all Coloradans to thank a farmer today.”
Gov. John Hickenlooper designated March 16, 2011, as Colorado Ag Day, coinciding with National Ag Week, March 13-19, to celebrate Colorado ’s and America ’s agricultural industries.
