Lakewood, CO – Congressmen Jim Langevin (D-RI), Dave Reichert (R-WA), Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) and John Boozman (R-AR) – Co-Chairmen of the Congressional Olympic and Paralympic Caucus -- today launched a new Caucus website. The new online presence is intended to provide the public with improved access to news and information on the many activities and programs sponsored by the United States Olympic Committee.
“As we gear up to send Team USA to London in 2012, my colleagues and I felt it was important to start a caucus to support our thousands of Olympians and Paralympians – past and present,” said Langevin, a co-founder of the Caucus. “In addition to Team USA , I am also particularly interested in raising awareness about the USOC’s invaluable military and veterans sports programs.”
“It’s my hope that with the launch of this website, the caucus will be better able to serve as a source of information for athletes and aspiring athletes as well as their family members, friends and supporters to learn more about Olympic-related activities,” Reichert said. “I’m proud to co-chair this group and have been fortunate to see firsthand the many ways sports benefit our young people. Athletic activity promotes good health, sharpens the mind and teaches the benefits of discipline, training and teamwork. Participating in sports helps Olympians and Paralympians alike live healthy, well-balanced lives, and I’m excited to be a part of promoting greater education on this issue.”
“As a proud co-chair of the Olympic & Paralympic Caucus I look forward to reaching out to more athletes and their supporters with this new website,” said Perlmutter. “In Colorado we have a U.S. Olympic Training Center and many world-class ski areas which help train our Olympic & Paralympic athletes. These athletes inspire us all but most importantly they inspire kids and those with disabilities to compete. I look forward to working with my friends in the caucus to support our athletes as they prepare for London 2012 and Sochi 2014.”
“This new website will help us share the message of the Olympic and Paralympic Caucus and all the great work of our athletes,” said Boozman. “These Olympians and Paralympians dream so big, work so hard, and sacrifice so much to represent our nation. I am pleased that the website will serve as a tool to raise awareness about programs that embody the Olympic spirit, as well as share all the great stories of our athletes.”
